Dutertenomics shown on WEF sidelines

PHNOM PENH – In a bid to attract investors, officials of the Duterte administration showcased yesterday the government’s economic program dubbed “Dutertenomics” on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on ASEAN here.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar made the presentation during a press conference attended by members of the foreign media.

Tugade said the Philippines today stands on the brink of dramatic transformation with the six-year development plan aimed at building the needed infrastructure in the country.

Tugade cited in particular the government’s plan of rehabilitating existing airports as well as building new ones in the provinces.

Villar, on the other hand, stressed that Dutertenomics involves the building of big-ticket infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, mass urban and subway systems considered to be priorities in the Duterte administration’s development agenda.

Senator and incoming Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, National Economic and Development Authority director general Ernesto Pernia, Energy Secretary Al Cusi, Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez as well as presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella also attended the press conference.

The Philippines has been enjoying positive growth every year over the past 19 years and officials said it is time to take the next big step in national development.
