MANILA, Philippines — Veteran broadcast journalist Charie Villa turned down the offer of President Rodrigo Duterte's office to head state-run broadcast company PTV4.

Charie Villa, a former news executive at ABS-CBN, confirmed that she has not seen the "responsive government" of Duterte which Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar promised when he gave her a call offering her the post.

"I have decided to refuse any offer, because I think they are not serious about what they promised, and with what's happening lately, I think I will be more effective outside," Villa said in a comment on Facebook.

Villa's comment were appended to a Facebook post by artist Rock Drilon who said the journalist "won't be able to assume her position due to her expressed views against [extrajudicial killings] and the Marcos burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani."

Villa said, however, she still wants to pursue her dream of building a public news source.

Andanar has recently announced plans to reform PTV4 to mimic the model of publicly funded broadcasting company BBC in Britain.

Earlier this month, Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas has filed a bill seeking to create the "People's Broadcasting Corporation" to replace state television station PTV-4.
