MANILA, Philippines – Brace for summer-like temperatures this week.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday said warm and humid weather would continue to prevail in the country until Friday. In Metro Manila, the temperature will range from 25 to 34 degrees Celsius.

In Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, the temperature will be between 25 and 36 degrees Celsius. It will range from 16 to 25 degrees in Baguio City, and from 22 to 32 degrees in Tagaytay.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the low-pressure area (LPA) spotted 785 kilometers east- northeast of Basco, Batanes as of 4 p.m. yesterday has still no direct effect on any part of the country.

However, the LPA may develop into a tropical depression while over the sea, PAGASA said.

“The whole archipelago will experience warm and humid weather condition during morning with a chance of afternoon or evening rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the extension of the ridge of a high-pressure area over the eastern section of Luzon,” the agency said.

This weather condition will prevail until Friday, July 22.

PAGASA said the coastal waters throughout the archipelago would be slight to moderate.

The weather bureau earlier said one to three tropical cyclones are likely to enter the country in July.

So far, only one cyclone – Butchoy (Nepartak) – has entered the Philippine area of responsibility this month.

Butchoy induced monsoon rains that triggered floods and landslides in some parts of Central Luzon.

PAGASA has predicted near to above normal rainfall in most parts of Luzon beginning next month to December due to a possible La Niña occurrence this year.

Near to above normal rain was also forecast for most parts of the Visayas and Mindanao beginning this month until December.
