Local absentee voters start casting votes

MANILA, Philippines – The three-day local absentee voting (LAV) started at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) National Capital Region Office on Wednesday.

The LAV slated from April 27, Wednesday until April 29, Friday allows media practitioners, government officials and employees, and members of the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines who are registered voters but would not be able to vote on May 9 due to their duties to exercise their right of suffrage.

The local absentee voters will choose for the positions of president, vice-president, senators, and party-list.

This year, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon reported on her Twitter account that there are 24,814 local absentee voters. Among the 28,705 who applied for LAV, 3,891 got disapproved.

The number of local absentee voters this year is higher compared to the 2013 elections with only 12,732 voters.

Unlike the national elections, local absentee voters will cast their votes manually and will not be able to use the automated election system.
