MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) yesterday geared up for the expected return of thousands of passengers who spent their holiday vacation in the provinces.
PCG spokesman Cmdr. Armand Balilo said they expect the passengers to return to Metro Manila this weekend to be able to go back to work tomorrow or in time for the resumption of classes.
As of 2 p.m. yesterday, the PCG said 55,551 passengers from various parts of the country were scheduled to arrive in Metro Manila.
Balilo said majority of these travelers were coming from the Visayas and Mindanao.
Balilo said they have not lowered their heightened alert status since they activated their Oplan Ligtas Byahe Christmas 2015 last Dec. 16.
He assured returning passengers that assistance centers, safety ship inspectors, medical teams and K9 units are ready to attend to their needs.
He appealed to passengers to comply with regulations, including not carrying deadly weapons, liquor and narcotics aboard ships, to ensure hassle-free travel.
