SET junks disqualification case vs Poe

MANILA, Philippines - The Senate Electoral Tribunal on Tuesday voted in favor of Sen. Grace Poe in connection with the disqualification case filed against her.

Voting 5-4, the SET decided to deny the disqualification against the Poe, a presidential aspirant in the 2016 national elections.

According to a report from the STAR, Sens. Pia Cayetano, Loren Legarda, Bam Aquino, Cynthia Villar and Tito Sotto voted in favor of Poe.

On the other hand, Justice Antonio Carpio, Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro, Justice Arturo Brion and Sen. Nancy Binay voted to disqualify the senator.

Losing senatorial bet Rizalito David filed the case against the senator, seeking to unseat her in the Senate, citing her residency and citizenship issues.

The SET earlier decided to rule out the residency issue and focus on the citizenship issue instead.

Poe is also facing several disqualification cases before the Commission on Elections, seeking to invalidate her certificate of candidacy for president.
