MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III has approved the resignation of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Joel Villanueva.

According to the Office of the Executive Secretary, Aquino accepted Villanueva's resignation effective October 13.

Villanueva tendered his resignation on October 9 after officially announcing that he will run for senator.

Following Villanueva's resignation, Aquino also designated Irene Isaac as TESDA officer-in-charge.

Isaac was the TESDA deputy director general for policies and planning.

Aquino appointed Isaac in her new post "in order to avoid the disruption in the rendition of essential government services and to ensure continuity of vital programs, projects and activities of TESDA."

Villanueva will be running for senator under Aquino's Liberal Party.
