MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Saturday officially announced he is running for vice president in the 2016 national elections.

The announcement was held at the Puerta Real Gardens, Intramuros, Manila where several supporters and politicians, including Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada, Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile, Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos and his mother former First Lady Imelda Marcos were present to show support.

In his speech, Marcos answered why he did not make the important announcement in Ilocos or Leyte or even in Bulacan where his grandmother was born.

According to Marcos, Intramuros represents the Filipino heroes who fought for our independence against Spanish colonial rule. He said that Filipinos are still not free despite the declaration of independence on June 12, 1898 due to poverty, crisis and corruption in the present administration.

Marcos vowed that if elected, he will eradicate these development issues and lead a revolution.
