PNP rolls out Lent, summer security measures

To secure public places and vacation spots during the Lent and summer breaks, the Philippine National Police has rolled out its yearly security measures.

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered a nationwide security plan to ensure safe and secure travel of motorists and commuters this coming Lenten break and summer vacation.

PNP officer-in-charge Leonardo Espina assured the public that the PNP will ensure this year's summer vacation to be peaceful and secured as outlined in its anti-criminality campaign, "Ligtas SUMVAC 2015."

The PNP is anticipating various events  such as Holy Week, town fiestas, Bataan Day, Flores de Mayo and other related activities which will start on the last week of March until the end of May this year.

Such events are expected to generate numerous commuters and tourists who will travel to their respective provinces and tourist destinations and these may cause peace and order concerns including traffic congestion, accidents and other crimes, the PNP said.

Criminals may take advantage of people converging in places such as beach and other tourist destinations for relaxation and recreation, the PNP added.

"Police presence will be intensified through increased foot-mobile patrols, establish police assistance desks and Centers and deploy road safety marshals in convergence points particularly in bus terminals, airports, seaports, train stations, recreational areas including highways, main thoroughfares and crime prone areas," Directorate for Police Community Relations head, Police Director Danilo Constantino, said.

The PNP will also continue its focus on manhunt operations against fugitives, intelligence driven operations against criminal gangs and suspected threat groups, and service of warrants on loose firearms as stipulated in the Oplan Lambat Sibat.
