Philippines condemns killing of Japanese journalist
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine government condemned the brutal killing of a Japanese journalist under the hands of an Islamic State group.
"We express our condolences to the Japanese people as they cope with the recent loss of two Japanese lives," a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs read.
An online video showing the beheading of Japanese journalist Kenji Goto was released to send a message to the government of Japan.
"The Philippines joins Japan and the international community in global efforts to thwart the propagation of extremist ideas, terrorism, violence and crimes against humanity," the statement added.
Last October 2014, Goto traveled to Syria for the release of Haruna Yukawa but was captured instead.
The Islamic State group threatened to kill Goto and Yukawa unless Japan pays $200 million.
