MANILA, Philippines - Classes were suspended in some areas in Metro Manila and Rizal yesterday due to floods brought by heavy rains.
The local governments of Taytay, Rizal and Manila City suspended classes in all levels in public and private schools.
In Pasay City, classes were suspended from pre-school to high school.
In the absence of typhoon signal warnings, the cancellation or suspension of classes and work in government offices may be implemented by local chief executives based on Executive Order No. 66 issued by President Aquino on Jan. 9, 2012.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the low-pressure area which dumped heavy rains over parts of Luzon and the Visayas was expected to weaken after crossing landmass of Quezon yesterday.
As of 10 a.m. yesterday, the low-pressure area was spotted in the vicinity of Alabat, Quezon.
PAGASA said the whole country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms until Monday next week.
The weather bureau said no tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country until Sept. 1.
A total of 10 cyclones have entered the Philippine area of responsibility so far this year.
PAGASA said coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
