MANILA, Philippines - Workers who will report for work today and on Tuesday are entitled to extra pay, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Malacañang previously declared July 27 as a special non-working holiday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) and July 29 as a regular holiday to celebrate Eid’l Fitr, the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz on Friday said during regular holidays, workers who report for work shall receive double of their regular daily salary for the first eight hours of labor and another 30 percent for services rendered in excess of eight hours.
Baldoz said workers who are scheduled to be on their day-off but had been required to work shall get 230 percent for the first eight hours of their services and additional 30 percent in excess of their regular working hours.
Those who would choose not to work and enjoy the holiday shall still get their regular daily pay, Baldoz said.
Workers who will report for work today shall get additional 30 percent on top of their regular daily pay.
For work done in excess of eight hours, Baldoz said the employee is entitled to additional 30 percent while those who will be required to work during their rest day shall be paid 150 percent.
If they will render more than eight hours of work despite the fact that it’s their supposed rest day, the workers shall get another 30 percent.
Baldoz, however, stressed that “no-work, no-pay” principle shall apply unless there is a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day.
The labor chief said employers must properly observe pay rules on regular holidays and special non-working days to promote workplace harmony and productivity.
