(UPDATE) Landmine blast injures 4 in ComVal

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (Xinhua) - Four people were wounded in a landmine explosion in southern Philippines today, the military said.

Those injured were civilians who were aboard a police car on its way to investigate an arson incident believed to be conducted by the leftist New People's Army (NPA) in Monkayo town, in Mindanao's Compostela Valley province around 8:40 a.m local time.

Captain Ernest Carolina, spokesperson of the army's 10th Infantry Division, said in anther case on the day, soldiers recovered four landmines allegedly hung onto trees by suspected NPA guerrillas along a road in Makilala town, in North Cotabato province.

The military has accused the NPA of violating international humanitarian rights by using landmines, which have killed hundreds of security forces and civilians in southern Philippines in recent years.
