No Filipino hurt in Ukraine protests so far

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang on Saturday said no Filipino working and living in Ukraine has been reported to be hurt so far amid the political turmoil in the country.

"Because of some of the events transpiring in Ukraine, particulalrly Kiev, the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) has been monitoring the situation and making sure they are watching out for the welfare of Filipinos there," said Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte in an interview on DzRB.

"There have not been any reports of OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) being adversely affected or injured in the event," a PNA report quoted her.

The crisis in Ukraine began in November 2013 when President Viktor Yanukovych rejected an integration deal with the European Union in favor of closer ties with Russia.
