Imee sees Lakas-Kampi feud when Congress opens in July

Ilocos Norte Rep. Imee Marcos said yesterday that the feud between the two pro-administration parties, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) and Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi), would be rekindled when Congress resumes session in July.

Marcos said the revival of the political feud, which first erupted over the chairmanship of various committees in the House of Representatives, will be triggered by Kampi’s attempt to wrest the House leadership from Speaker Jose de Venecia.

"Rep. Louie Villafuerte will be the candidate of Kampi who will be pitted against De Venecia," Marcos told reporters during the weekly Balitaan sa Rembrandt Hotel in Quezon City.

Aside from the speakership issue, Kampi and Lakas will also make opposing stands on the move to amend the Constitution, whether carried out through a constitutional convention or a constitutional assembly.

The House committee on constitutional reforms headed by Cagayan de Oro Rep. Constantino Jaraula has already approved a resolution to convene the Senate and the House into a constituent assembly to amend the 1987 Charter. But Marcos said there will still be a heated debate between Lakas-CMD and Kampi over the issue.
