Will VP Leni seek to probe Jesse's death?

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Freeman

In a month and five days from now specifically on August 18 will be the fourth death anniversary of the late Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse M. Robredo, the late husband of Vice-President Leni Robredo. I only met him twice, the first time was when he was Mayor of Naga City and he came to Cebu for a speech, and on the second time, during an Anti-Trafficking Conference in Manila where he was one of the principal speakers.

If you checked the social networking sites, there is so much interest in what happened to Jesse Robredo just before his plane crashed in Masbate. First there was an article where VP Leni Robredo revealed that she knew that her husband was no longer welcomed by the cohorts of former president Benigno "PNoy" Aquino III. That his appointment in the Commission on Appointments was bypassed three times at the time when Aquino was so almighty and powerful that he could remove a sitting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court gives you an idea of the dilemma of Jesse, which now VP Leni has openly told in public.

When on August 18, 2012, his Piper Seneca piloted by my good friend Capt. Jessup Bahinting crashed as it was attempting to land in Masbate, his own Undersecretary Secretary Rico Puno was reported to have gone to his office and ransacked it. In her Facebook page, Philippine Star fellow columnist Carmen Pedrosa quoted an article by Jose Alejandrino, which appeared on the blog of James Parmis last July 11th saying, "When Aquino was told of the plane crash, he instructed Rico Puno USEC in DILG to rush to Robredo's condo and to look for files and dispose of them because they contained incriminating evidences against two Cabinet members."

Alejandrino noted about Jesse Robredo saying, "Before he died in a fatal crash he was investigating drug lords and their connections to the PNP. He discovered the links to some Generals, notably two who have been named among five by Duterte." Alejandrino added, "Jess informed President Aquino of his investigations. The problem was, it was not only the drug lords who had links to some PNP Generals, but as Jess dug deeper found that they had links to Palace officials." This in my book is damaging to the supposedly squeaky clean Benigno Aquino who repeated his daang matuwid mantra in the hope that a lie repeated a thousand times would assume the substance of truth.

When the Liberal Party and no less than then Aquino was looking for a running mate for his pal, former DILG secretary Manuel "Mar" Roxas, he ended at the doorstep of the widow of Jesse Robredo. I did warn her not to accept the post because we knew too well that Leni was untainted and yes, like Cory Aquino, a widow.

I wrote columns on what they did to Jesse while his body was still missing in the waters of Masbate. But Leni apparently agreed to be used by the Liberal Party and now she is Vice President. So the question is, will she seek justice for the death of her husband Jesse? Mind you, in life Aquino did not give any importance to Jesse and he would have been more than happy if the poor fellow submitted his resignation. But he uncovered a trail of corruption within the PNP's top brass and I would like to believe that he died for digging too much into this scandalous behavior of public officials.

So the million peso question is, are the two Police Generals named by President Duterte the same people in the Robredo list? Since there was no formal investigation on the fatal crash of the Seneca plane of Robredo I would like to believe that it is incumbent upon the Department of Justice to formally investigate that incident and have Rico Puno arrested for obstruction of justice so that we can get into the bottom of this mess.
