Quezon’s Lullaby

Today, this column focuses on a lullaby of President Manuel Luis Quezon, with music by Primitivo Sales, BSE, and words by Sgt. Tomas Maloyo.

Some months back, Remember When? featured a song dedicated to Doña Aurora Aragon Quezon, First Lady during the Commonwealth Era. Today, this column focuses on a lullaby of President Manuel Luis Quezon, with music by Primitivo Sales, BSE, and words by Sgt. Tomas Maloyo. The Quezon’s lullaby was first played by NEPA Orchestra & Band in the late ‘30s.

The lyrics:

One night when twilight was falling

I was happy dreaming a dream

Of someone born a great leader

Leader of our Philippines

Quezon’s lullaby is the sweetest

It’s for our dear Motherland

No other waltz I know is dearer

Which can make a heart to rest

One who is blue sings this lullaby

A lullaby of Quezon

Oh the brave — brave

Remember When? learned that a film on President Quezon has just been finished. It is centered on Quezon’s courageous decision to open the country to Jews who were being persecuted by Hitler during the ’30s and ’40s. Raymond Bagatsing portrays Quezon and Rachel Alejandro is Doña Aurora.

Another Quezon movie is being planned, this one more exhaustive and definitive, with Benjamin Alves as the President. The people behind Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral are bankrolling the film, said to be epic in scale. — RKC
