WATCH: Catriona Gray on Philippines’ possible Miss Universe 2018 hosting

MANILA, Philippines — Will the Philippines’ Miss Universe 2018 representative Catriona Gray have a “home court advantage” should the pageant be staged in the country?

According to news reports, due to a successful 2016 hosting, the country has a 90 percent chance of hosting Miss Universe 2018 again.

Some netizens say holding the pageant in the country would make Catriona feel more confident to take home the crown. Meanwhile, others feel it could jinx her chance of winning the top prize as judges might be hesitant to make the host country’s candidate win because other contestants might think it would be unfair.

But what does Catriona think?

In a recent interview with Philstar.com during a PLDT-Smart party thrown in honor of three latest Miss Universe queens, Gray said: “I definitely won’t be low in spirits because every time, every event, the presence of the Filipinos will be felt, which will be wonderful for me.”

She, however, is ready to wave the Philippine flag wherever the pageant might be.

“But with that being said, wherever it will be held, I will feel that spirit through social media, through fans in the venue. I’ve experienced that before so I don’t feel it’s going to be a disadvantage or an advantage (for me if Miss Universe 2018 will be held in the Philippines).” — Videos by Kat Leandicho
