Ryza Cenon bags award at Osaka Asian Film Fest

MANILA, Philippines — A Filipina was once again recognized at the Osaka Asian Film Festival in Japan.

Actress Ryza Cenon was awarded the Yakushi Pearl Award or the Most Brilliant Performer Award at the 13th Osaka film fest on Saturday, for her film “Mr. and Mrs. Cruz.”

Cenon succeeded Iza Calzado, who also previously took home the same award for her role in “Bliss.” Film Development Council of the Philippines chair Liza Diño-Seguerra, who attended the Philippine Night of the film fest, shared the news in her social media and congratulated the Kapuso star.

The director of the film "Mr. and Mrs. Cruz," Sigfrid Bernardo, also congratulated Cenon.

Cenon’s boyfriend, actor Cholo Barretto, was also present in the film fest to support her.

Meanwhile, director of film “Neomanila,” Mikhail Red, also won the Most Promising Talent Award at the same film fest. FDCP also congratulated the young director.

Red’s film “Birdshot” was the country’s official entry to the Foreign Film Category of the 2018 Oscars.
