Sarah, JaDine join OneRepublic at MTV Music Evolution

Great news!  MTV Music Evolution Manila is happening again on June 24. The first show last year focused on rap and hip-hop music and was such a success that it was named Best Entertainment (One-off/Annual) at the Asian Television Awards 2015. So they decided to do another one this year but with the spotlight on pop tunes. And for this, take a look at the goodies that MTV has put together to delight fans around here and also those who will come from far off lands just to watch the exciting event live.

Announced as performers in the one-night-only celebration of pop music will be the internationally famous band OneRepublic, plus today’s top Filipino movie and music stars, Sarah Geronimo, James Reid and Nadine Lustre. Note that this is only the beginning. Watch out for future announcements. There will be more big names also coming to perform at the MTV Music Evolution Manila ’16, so fans can bet their last peso that this will be one awesome party.

OneRepublic is one of today’s most popular groups and will be returning to Manila after its memorable visit three years ago. The American band made its debut with the song Apologize in 2007 from the album Dreaming Out Loud. It was followed two years later by the album Waking Up with the big-selling singles All The Right Moves, Secrets and Good Life

It was last year though when OneRepublic really hit the big time with Counting Stars, the playlist and club favorite from the album Native, that has already sold over a million copies in downloads alone. Native also includes If I Lose Myself, Feel Again, Love Runs Out and I Lived. Fans are, of course, hopeful that these songs will be among those that OneRepublic will perform at Music Evolution.

Incidentally, do you think there is a chance that OneRepubIic will do a number with either Sarah or James or Nadine or with all of them in the show? That would be really nice. I would like to see how Sarah and JaDine, who have all developed their own Pinoy pop music styles will fare beside the visiting foreign band. Besides, just in case you have forgotten, MTV is also famous for putting together unpredictable combinations in its live shows. So this possibility is also something we can all look forward to.

Sarah is now busy promoting her latest album The Great Unknown and her new single Tala. She was named the Best Southeast Asian Act at the MTV EMAs in 2014. James and Nadine are at present riding high on the box-office success of their latest screen pairing titled This Time. They were both nominated for Best Southeast Asian Act in last year’s MTV EMAs.

A joint project of MTV, a unit of Viacom, Inc. and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) of the Philippines, the MTV Music Evolution shows aim to showcase iconic and contemporary international music artists and the hottest new acts in both the regional and local music scenes. This is while also featuring the best of Philippine music and culture for international youth audiences. The Evolution show is so named because it brings to life the evolution of a music genre and enables young people to experience and discover how music styles and sounds have evolved over the years.

Recorded live for global telecast under the MTV World Stage global series, this year’s show will reach an international audience of more than three quarters of a billion households in over 160 countries. Hosting the event will be MTV Asia VJs Alan Wong and Hanli Hoefer along with MTV Pinoy VJs Yassi Pressman and Andre Paras.

And now here is the even bigger news. Tickets to the MTV Music Evolution 2016 show in June, are not for sale. They come free, so do not believe those who say otherwise. All that fans have to do is answer a contest question on www.mtvmusicevo.com. The contest is now going on and will continue to accept entries until June 12. Aside from entry passes, out-of-town winners can also win a trip to Manila to experience the MTV Music Evolution.
