MANILA, Philippines - Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo will headline the remake of the ABS-CBN soap opera “Pangako Sa ‘Yo.”

The development was announced during the network's trade event and was reported in the late night talk show “Aquino & Abunda Tonight” on Tuesday.

The show is slated to air next year.

Joining Daniel and Kathryn are Angelica Panganiban and Jodi Sta. Maria, who will play the roles of Claudia Buenavista and Amor Powers, respectively.

Rumors that Daniel and Kathryn will lead the “Pangayo Sa ‘Yo” remake surfaced last August. The stars did not confirm the earlier reports but expressed excitement in the project.

The hashtag #KathNielPangakoSayoTradeLaunch became a trending topic on the social networking site Twitter in the Philippines immediately after the announcement.

“The most awaited teleserye in 2015,” said one Twitter user.

“Pangako Sa ‘Yo,” which originally aired on ABS-CBN from 2000 to 2002, starred Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa.

In a previous interview with the press prior to the announcement, Jericho said he believes Daniel and Kathryn deserve the lead roles in the “Pangako Sa ‘Yo” remake.

Kung magakakaroon ng remake, sino ba ako para magsabi? Pero kung tatanungin n'yo ako, they deserve to be Angelo and Ina. Kasi ang lakas-lakas ng love team nila,” Jericho told Philstar.com and other members of the press.
