The musical journey of Bassilyo

MANILA, Philippines - The single Lord Patawad has many a kid and adult singing and rapping with its radio airplay not only reaching Metro Manila but provinces as well. The music video became the No. 3 trending music video on YouTube in the Philippines — just coming after Psy and Katy Perry — with over 12 million views.

The popular song is part of debut EP of Bassilyo (photo) titled Klasik released under MCA Music. One of the leading rappers in the Philippines, Bassilyo is also managed by the top record label. The EP also features the current single Walang Kwentang Kanta, which has a humorous music video now playing on MYX and YouTube, as well as other tracks and fillers like WOW, Eucharist Bar, Matira Matibay featuring Crazy Mix, Prinsesa Ko, Ayoko Nang Umawit, Pamagat and Baliwan featuring Crazy Family, Badboys, Crazy Mix, Crispin, Elbiz, Buhawi, G Clown, Flict G, Kakin and Lirico.

When hip-hop blossomed in the Philippines in the early ’90s, Lordivino “Deyb” Ignacio (a.k.a. Bassilyo) is part of the rap group Crazy as Pinoy.

At a young age, he fell in love with rap music. While living in Marikina City, he would spend hours battle-rapping with Crazy as Pinoy for fun. Rapping would then evolve into an irreplaceable outlet of self-expression and stress-relief. Crazy as Pinoy became the champion of Eat, Bulaga’s Rap-public of the Philippines contest in 2002.

In 2012, Bassilyo joined FLIPTOP and became a hit. He also joined the Homegrown Hip-hop compilation album, one of the best ever released in the country.

Bassilyo’s Klasik is now out in CDs at leading record stores and digital downloads via spinnr.ph and iTunes under MCA Music.
