Archie Alemania prefers indie films

MANILA, Philippines - Archie Alemania now favors getting involved in independent films, where he can showcase his other acting skills.

Archia, who is more known for his being a comedian, said he can offer more of his talent to the public through indie films.

“Yun ang gusto ko 'pag sa indie, e, iba’t ibang side ko yung nakikita,” he said in an interview on Friday afternoon. “Sa mainstream kasi kung ano na yung sanay silang makita sa ‘yo, dun ka na nila kukunin.

“Dito ko nalalabas yung iba ko pang kayang gawin sa indie. Lahat puwede kong gawin ‘wag lang comedy, yun lang ang iniiwasan ko sa indie.”

Archie also revealed during the interview that he will also try to avoid getting too many gay roles.

“Ayaw ko kasi ma-typecast. Ayaw kong maalala nila ako as yun na lang lagi ang ginagawa ako, gusto ko paiba-iba,” he explained.

Archie is one of the main characters in the gay-themed film "Slumber Party," which also features Markki Stroem and RK Bagatsing.

The actor said that his role in the movie is very different from the gay-comedy acts he did on TV.

“May character akong pinagbabasehan dito,” he added. “Talagang may ginaya kami, totoong character yung ginnawa namin dito, yun ang pinagbasehan ng ginawa namin.”

Aside from promoting the commercial release of “Slumber Party” on November 27, Archie is also busy with the line up of films he’ll be working on.

He is also part of Director Jerrold Tarog’s film “Juan Luna,” where he will play the Philippine hero Emilio Jacinto. He will also play Kapitan Rusko in Lav Diaz's “Prologo.”

Both films will be released next year.
