MANILA, Philippines - Carla Guevara-Laforteza, an accomplished leading performer in contemporary theater in the country, has a new starring role as Sarah Stone in Repertory Philippines’ season musical No Way To Treat A Lady.
Described as a dark, comedic musical thriller, the stage presentation will open on March 1 at the Onstage theater in Greenbelt 1 with Audie Gemora as director.
Also in the cast are Audie, Joel Trinidad, Pinky Marquez and Sheila Francisco.
After spending six years in New York to finish her studies and raise her family, Carla returned to Manila in 2006 to reclaim her spot in the theater scene.
Trained since 1992 by theater directors Baby Barredo and the late Zenaida Amador, Carla has blossomed into a top-notch international performer via Miss Saigon run in London as Gigi and then Kim.
Her comeback performance was given to her by director Joy Virata through a uniquely difficult starring role in a one-woman musical, Song and Dance.
She has since been tapped by top theater directors and producers such as Bobby Garcia, Chari Arespacochaga of Atlantis Productions, Roxanne Lapus of Resorts World Manila, Robbie Guevara and Santi Santamaria of Nine Works Theatricals to star in their projects in Manila and Singapore.
Carla has been acclaimed by critics for her consistent, exceptional and incomparable performances as Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q in Manila and Singapore runs; Olive in The 25th Annual Putnam County’s Spelling Bee Manila and Singapore runs; Maureen in Rent; Lucy in You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown; and, most recently, as Guido Contini’s mistress Carla Albanese in the Tony award-winning musical Nine.
