Against all odds

Having hope is not always something that we can easily achieve. These past few years, I have found myself just taking life as it is.

As much as possible, I try not to plan things simply because I don’t want to be disappointed. Sometimes, events in our lives change the way we see things.

Allan Fadua, better known as Mura, is one person who I can say has experienced some of the most painful things a person can handle.

He has been in the business for about four years now. "So far, OK naman," Allan says. He feels very lucky to be where he is.

He doesn’t really have much of a "career plan." He’s just going with the flow at the moment.

He’s only hoping for more TV guestings and that he can stay in the business for as long as he can.

"I just dream of having a show because I want to save for my family. I love my Papa. I want him to have his own land so my siblings won’t fight among themselves."

Although he’s not very close to his father, Allan treasures his family dearly. One of his happiest moments was when he got accepted in showbiz.

"Sumali kami noon sa Flying Sexy Girl sa MTB. Bale ginawa nila akong props and Kuya Willie (Revillame) noticed me. And then we won," Allan recalls.

He can’t really remember hard times in showbiz because he always found it fun. But behind the comedian’s image is a simple, serious person.

Allan is turning 31 on July 5. He’s originally from Bicol and now based in Manila. He lost his mother at an early age. It was his father who brought him up.

Even if he only finished elementary, I still consider Allan blessed because he has achieved a lot in life.

"I studied in Bicol. I was embarrassed because my classmates were bigger than me. Unable to finish my studies is just fine with me. Maybe it’s because our finances then were not enough," Allan quips.

He started going to school at nine and stopped at 16.

Since then, Allan started working. After so many years, I would have expected a man his age to have a family of his own.

"My own family? Perhaps, someday, but not now," Allan explains.

I couldn’t help but ask him if he’s still a virgin. He just kept laughing and laughing and never gave me a straight answer.

I found that very cute. Allan admits one of his showbiz crushes is Carol Banawa. He has always liked her.

He thinks Carol is beautiful. The last time Allan had a girlfriend was when he was 16.

She had a normal height. Their relationship lasted about a year. Then it suddenly fell apart when she passed away.

Allan was devastated. Until this very day, he can still remember the pain of losing that one person he truly loved.

Allan hasn’t had a girlfriend since.

"I’m afraid of falling in love. I might lose her again," he says.

I felt really bad hearing such a thing from him, and hope that someday soon, he would realize that learning to truly love someone is one of the most beautiful things that can happen in his life.

I am very glad to be one of the persons Allan Fadua or Mura has trusted to open up to.

Have a great Sunday everyone!
