List of 1st MYX Music Awards nominees

If you are now up to your ears or maybe even drowning to the sounds of local bands, blame MYX. If you’re thankful for the soothing songs of M.Y.M.P., you should blame the music channel, too. The same thing goes for the budding music video industry. Where would they be if MYX weren’t around to air their works? MYX can be largely credited with the resurgence of interest in new Filipino music today and the popularity of videos. Truth to tell, I am scared to think of what kids might be listening to these days if MYX hadn’t come into being.

Of course, there is also the reality that the sounds we may now get from the airlanes are only those included in the MYX playlist. Power of that dimension can be dangerous. Time to tap other sources. But that is still better than nothing for our beleaguered music industry that needs help from the influx of foreign sounds, arms and allies to combat piracy and a new generation of listeners who are not prejudiced against the music of Orange & Lemons because it happens to be a local band.

So I am very glad to know MYX is strengthening its commitment to the welfare of Filipino music by mounting the First MYX Music Awards. Save for one category, the Favorite International Video, everything else is geared towards honoring the works of Filipino artists. Then, true to its slogan of Your Choice, Your Music, MYX will let televiewers choose the winners in 17 major categories via sms/text messaging.

How to do this: The list of nominees has been released. Each one comes with a corresponding number. All voters have to do is text MMA (number of preferred nominee) then send to 2366. Example: MMA 11 if you want to vote for Bamboo as Favorite Artist. Each text costs P2.50 and just to be fair, texters can vote only once per category per day. That means that you cannot use up all your load voting for one favorite song or artist within a single day. You can only do it once.
