Dapitan’s PARAK SBB Arnis Team shines in Zubiri Cup

CEBU, Philippines — The PARAK SBB Arnis Team of Dapitan City under the tutelage of coach Cris Saldon Hamoy and armed with full support from mayor Seth Frederick “Bullet” Jalosjos grabbed the limelight in the recently concluded 87th Araw ng Davao Zubiri Cup National Invitational Arnis Kali Eskrima Tournament held at the University of the Philippines (UP) Sports Complex in Mintal, Davao City.

In all, the spirited Dapitanon arnisadors carted away 17 medals sliced into 10 golds, two silvers, and five bronzes, which is already quite a feat for a first-time competitors in an out-of-town joust.

Hamoy himself bannered PARAK SBB’s hot charge with a golden performance in the live stick and a silver in the padded stick masters division.

Giamiel Austin Daguinotas pocketed a double gold in the live and padded stick of the boys extra lightweight category, while

 Elyza Celine Valeras minted a gilt in the live stick and a silver in the padded stick of the girls bantamweight class.

John Gasper Laput bagged a gold in live stick and a bronze in padded stick under the boys Cadet C beginner,

Vanessa Lorein Sabejon contributed gold in the live stick and bronze in the padded stick of the girls lightweight, Maxana Dhave  Jumamoy chipped in a gold and a bronze in the girls extra lightweight, while John Leo Cirs Betong Pajaron added gold and a bronze in the boys featherweight.

The other gold medalists were Cristyl Neilswind Hamoy in girls welterweight and John Kent Pon Vailoces in the senior beginner boys lightweight.

On the other hand, John Wyne Fernandez donated bronze in the padded stick of the boys lightweight beginner.

“First of all, magpasalamat ko sa mga tawo nga nagpaluyo ug sa walay pagduha-duha misuporta namo labi na sa among mayor nga si Seth Frederick “Bullet” Jalosjos, city administrator mam Amalou Tumapon Monroyo, ug sa among tourism officer mam Apple Marie Agolong nga anaa kanunay nagpaluyo para hapsay nga magpadayon ang arnis sa Dapitan,” said Hamoy.

“We are so blessed na natagaan mi og chance nga nabiyaan sa mga bata ang gadget ug nag-train sila sa arnis. Ako man kini sila gipahinumduman sa kanunay sa paborito nakong panultihon nga, “sticks over gadgets and exercise over radiation”. Labaw sa tanan, importante kaayo nga naka-gain og experience ang mga bata para ma-aware sila unsay mga possibilities sa usa ka dako na tournament,” Hamoy ended. – EBV
