San Remigio names coach Jeff Codera ‘adopted son’
CEBU, Philippines — From its head coach for basketball and sports consultant, the municipality of San Remigio has conferred another title to noted Cebuano skills trainer and coach Jefferson “Jeff” Codera.
Just recently, the northern Cebu town headed by Mayor Alfonso “Al” Pestolante has declared Codera as “adopted son” for his dedicated support to their sports program and his selfless efforts to empower the youth by harnessing further their athletic potentials.
The distinct honor was formally conferred by Pestolante on the 40-year-old Codera on the occasion of the town’s 151st Founding Anniversary last Monday, November 21.
“I’m very thankful to mayor Alfonso Pestolante, councilor Lou Ornopia and the rest of SB members, the department heads, and all the San Remigiohanons for welcoming and accepting me as one of their own,” said Codera, who is a member of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors training camp and a licensed Gold coach of USA Basketball.
“I’m deeply honored to represent San Remigio in my life. It’s very rare to become an adopted son in a prestigious municipality and I accept it all with my heart. I’m humbled with pride to serve the youth of San Remigio,” Codera continued.
For the past two months, Codera has been conducting free cage clinics and intensive tryouts with hopes of discovering potential players that could bring pride to the town in local and national leagues someday.
“My goal bodes well with the vision and mission of mayor Pestolante that is to scout for talents up to the mountain barangays and help develop their skills to become varsity players or even professional cagers in the future,” said Codera, who also serves as consultant of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI).
“We also want to showcase San Remigio as a sports tourism hub in the north. As their adopted son, I’m glad to be of service to the San Remigiohanons and I will try my very best to live up to their expectations,” Codera ended.
