‘Mulawin’ Moralde fights on career’s biggest stage

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Super featherweight contender John Vincent Moralde (23-3, 13KOs) of the General Santos City-based Sanman Gym steps on the biggest stage of his fistic career as he battles Mexican Jose Enrique Vivas (19-1, 10KOs) in “Winner Takes All” fightcard by Top Rank and ESPN Sports on Saturday night (Sunday morning Phl time) at the MGM Grand bubble in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It marks Moralde’s ring comeback after a 10-month layoff. In his previous bout, the ‘Mulawin’ from Davao scored a stunning first-round knockout of Argentina’s Marias Agustin Arriagada on December 21, 2019 at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo in Miami, Florida.

The Moralde-Vivas duel is one of the undercards of the hotly-anticipated unification bout between WBO/WBA lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (14-1, 10KOs) and the undefeated IBF titleholder Teofimo Lopez (15-0, 12KOs).

Over in Miami, Moralde’s Sanman stablemates in lightweight prospect Mark Bernaldez and welterweight James Bacon will slug it out with separate Argentine foes in the Fight Night VIII show by M&R Promotions at the Manual Airtime Community Center Theater.

Bernaldez (20-4, 14KOs) will trade blows with veteran brawler Julian Evaristo “Chipita” Aristule (34-13, 17KOs) while Bacon (23-4, 15KOs) will lock up horns with Gonzalo Carlos Dallera (6-8, 4KOs).
