CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Youth Basketball League marks a milestone as its ties up with the MVP Sports Foundation for the staging of the MYBL Cebu, the CYBL’s main tournament for the second semester of the school-year 2019-2020. The tournament will kick off on October 27, at the Magis Eagles Arena of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Canduman, Mandaue City.

“We are excited to partner with CYBL as it is aligned with MVPSF’s thrust to strengthen grassroots development and have a program that provides an avenue for young talents to further hone their skills,” MVPSF Marketing Head Maita David said.

The tournament will involve four age groups: Under 10, 12, 15, and 18, with games played every weekend from October to March 2020.

An initial list of 89 teams have signed up for the tournament. Among them include schools, ballclubs and LGU-based squads.

The age groups will have two categories or divisions. Division 1 is for the competitive teams while Division 2 is for the developmental clubs.

Venues of games will include the Sacred Heart School Mango Avenue campus gym and other host venues such as the Talisay Sports Complex, SMS-Boystown, Aznar Coliseum, USPF and USC South.

“Cebu has proven that it can produce top-caliber athletes and we at Gilas are very proud of June Mar Fajardo, Roger Pogoy and Councilor Dondon Hontiveros,” Gilas Pilipinas Assistant Manager Yvette Ruiz added after being reunited with former Gilas team captain Hontiveros at a courtesy call with Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella.

The MVPSF, behind its President Al Panlilio, Executive Director Ryan Gregorio and Atty. Oscar Moreno, sent a team to Cebu to formalize the partnership. Here with David and Ruiz were Rommel Garovillas of the MVPSF and Janel Ng of Smart.

The MVPSF seeks to support grassroots and age group sports with the dream of producing that elusive Olympic gold.

It currently supports sports such as weightlifting, boxing, taekwondo, football, futsal, rugby, badminton, and golf.
