Central Visayas pads lead in PRISAA National Games

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Defending champion Central Visayas pulled away from its rival in the penultimate day of the 2019 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games at the University of Mindanao- Matina campus here.

CV went unassailably ahead with its 76 gold, 38 silver and nine bronze medals. Western Visayas is far second with 18 golds, 40 silvers and 17 bronzes, while Bicol Region is currently at third with 18-4-11 gold-silver –bronze medals

University of Cebu’s senior weightlifters added 10 more golds plus three silvers and 5 bronzes to boost CV’s quest for a four-peat championship.

Elreen Ando snared three gold medals in the women’s 69+ division, while Nina Abigail Patalinghug and John Dexter Tabigue also got three golds each through the 63 kilograms and 94-kilograms divisions respectively.

UC athletes also dominated the table tennis in both senior men and women competition. Their men’s squad outlasted Western Visayas, 2-1, while the women’s team upended Western Visayas, 3-1.

In taekwondo, Ellen Joy Villacarlos of Cebu Doctor’s University claimed the gold in the lightweight division of kyurogi event.

CV tankers continued their medal haul yesterday claiming five golds, one silver and six bronzes.

University of San Carlos’ Razel Cabajar topped the 50-meter butterfly event with a time of 32.87 seconds, while her teammates in Antonne Villahermosa, Ron Fuentes and Joshua Beltran along with University of the Visayas’ Alfred Pacabis  collected four gilts via the 4x200m freestyle relay.
