CEBU, Philippines — The University of Southern Philippines Foundation successfully completed a double championship after its girls squad outlasted University of San Jose Recoletos in a ‘do-or-die’ Game 3 of the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) volleyball tournament yesterday night at its own turf in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

One day after they clinched the boys division championship, USPF belles followed it up with a thrilling four-setter over USJR, 25-16, 24-26, 25-23, 25-21.

“The girls always gave their best all throughout the tournament,” said USPF girls coach Yolanda Rizzari."You can really see their determination especially during our practices.”

Mitzie Panangin once again delivered for USPF as she led her team to victory. Panangin, who was hailed as the tournament MVP, scored the last three crucial scores for USPF that became the key to their victory.

"The secret was just hard work and trust to my teammates. I am very happy with the support coming from the USPF community,” said Panangin.

The 16-year-old Panangin was also hailed as the first best middle blocker.

Other special awardees were USPF's Tricia Cortes (second best outside attacker), Vanessa Lou Miñoza (best opposite attacker), Jam Marie Gayo (best setter) and Maria Gloria (best libero). USJ-R's Krisha Caasi was the first best outside attacker as her teammate Chennie Tagaod  was named as second best middle blocker. (FREEMAN)
