CLBA, Blackstone dominate age-group battle in Alegado Cup
CEBU, Philippines — Coach Leo Basketball Academy (CLBA) teams and Blackstone dominated the age-group battle in the 8th Mayor Teresa ‘Nene’ P. Alegado Fiesta Basketball Cup in Consolacion.
In the little mini open category for 13 years old and under players, CLBA annihilated Casili, 105-67, to take home the champion’s trophy.
Vince Suico sparkled with 24 points, while Marson Tolebao and Dexter Bejasa each scored 17 for CLBA, which was ahead by only eight points at halftime, 41-33, but whipped up a furious offensive storm in the last two quarters to blow away the hapless Casili.
Raising their lead to 16 points at the end of the third period, 69-53, CLBA sustained its hot charge to thrash Casili by 38 points at the final buzzer.
Suico was named as the Most Valuable Player.
It was a double celebration for CLBA of coach Leo Casinillo as it routed De Paul, 96-69, to clinch the mini open (15-under) title.
Josh Aribe banged in 26 points, Joash Cutamora added 23, and Christian Alilin chipped in 14 markers for CLBA, which did not give De Paul some breathing space after taking a 45-33 advantage at the break. It was cruise control for CLBA the rest of the way.
Aribe and Cutamora shared the coveted MVP honors.
On the other hand, Team Blackstone caught part of the spotlight after it escaped past the Rojas Warriors in overtime, 90-88, to snare the midget open crown.
Henry Donor paced Blackstone with 26 points followed by Jun Wilmar Isok with 16 points. They were backed up by Loniel Cabatingan and Joseph Wagas with 12 markers apiece. Donor went on to bag the MVP award.— EBV
