Lebron the Messiah?

SPORTS EYE - Raffy Uytiepo - The Freeman

Is LeBron James, the Messiah, a savior the Los Angeles Lakers have been waiting for all these years? After the Cleveland Cavaliers were swept by the Golden State Warriors last season, LeBron moved to Los Angeles for a four-year contract worth $154 million.  LeBron said he’s looking forward to the challenge of turning the fortunes of the Lakers who have not make the playoffs since 2013.  The Lakers were 33- 47 last season ending up in the bottom.  But is Lebron really the medicine the doctor ordered for the ailing Lakers?.  True, Lebron will probably lift the Lakers to the playoffs or even the Pacific Division plum.  Lebron will be backed by veterans Rajon Rondo and Lance Stephenson but this means the playing time and exposure of rising stars Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball, will be affected.  But could Lebron and company stand up to back-to-back champions Golden State who further strengthened their line up with the addition of All-Star center De Marcus Cousins.  Golden State thus boasts of five All-Stars including Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Cousins.  A diehard Laker fan friend of mine said not everybody in LA like Lebron.  He said LeBron has no loyalty and just looks for a team that will make him a champion. The Lakers are owners of 16 NBA championships and most of their great players have played for the team the rest  of their lives.  Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant never changed teams.  No wonder the new statue of LeBron at Staples Center was doused with white paint.  So is Lebron the missing link this season?.The Warriors don’t think so said Jing Jing Rama.

Ilonggos rule Milo Marathon

Ilonggo runners Jeson Agravante of Silay City and Eric Panique of Himamaylan ruled the recently-concluded NCR eliminations of this year’s Milo Marathon.  Jeson, a former Milo champion timed 2:35:10, while Panique clocked 2:42:41 to settle for second place. Brian Quinco was third in 2:43:59.  Two other Negrenses square it off for the vacant World Boxing Organization super flyweight crown on September 8 in Los Angeles, California. Donnie Nietes who hails from Murcia, Negros Occidental battles Aston Palicte who is from Bago City, hometown of Olympians Roel and Onyok Velasco and Leopoldo Cantancio. Nietes said Palicite still lacks experience but he is strong and young that’s why he is not taking his “kasimanwa” lightly.

San Miguel-Ginebra

After dosing in four games of the PBA Commissioners Cup where the results were all blowouts, Ted Cavan was finally awake for the exciting Game 5 of the series which was decided  only in the last minutes.  Both teams won by the margin of  30 points or more in the series.
