SPLC organizes 'Ruby Jubilee Run'

Lemuel P. Maglinte - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Over a thousand runners are expected to participate in St. Paul Learning Center’s first ever ‘Ruby Jubilee Run’ slated on October 3 at the Cebu Business Park.

The race which features 10K, 5K, 3K and 1K (family run) categories is a run for a cause for the benefit of the school’s annual Adopt-A-School Program.

“Now gearing towards the fifth decade of academic excellence, it’s every Paulinian’s pride to evolve, adopt, think ahead and beyond,” said SPLC principal Elma Ma Bergado in a press conference yesterday at the school’s audio visual room.

“We are educating our students about having a healthy lifestyle and this run will also help us in gathering funds for our outreach program. We will be giving school supplies, conducting feeding programs and school beautification for our adopted public schools in Barangay Banawa, Sapangdaku and Guadalupe,” added Bergado.

Together with the running enthusiasts, SPLC students and parents, young Cebuano runners from Cebu City Sports Commission’s grassroots program are also joining the event.

The grassroots athletes are trained by no other than veteran runner and triathlete Philip Dueñas and the reigning marathon queen of the country Mary Joy Tabal.

Cash prizes and medals await the top finishers in each category.

Registration is now ongoing at the SPLC campus in Barangay Guadalupe, RUNNR in Ayala Center Cebu and Infinitea at the City Times Square.

Entry fee is pegged at P500 for 10K, P400 for 5K, P350 for 3K and P250 for 1K inclusive of singlet, race bib and post-race refreshments.    (FREEMAN)
