Mindanao brawlers take centerstage in Sibonga boxing tonight

CEBU, Philippines - Junie Salogaol of Bukidnon and Rogen Flores of Dipolog City will take centerstage in the main event of the "Bahug-Bahug sa Sibonga" tonight at the Bonifacio Bacaltos Cultural Centrum in the southern Cebu town of Sibonga.

Salogaol and Flores will mix it up in a non-title bout scheduled for 10 rounds under the flyweight division.

In the undercards, Rodel Wenceslao of Mandaue City will go up against Ryan Maano of Tuburan, Cebu in a six-rounder lightweight duel, while Jerome Baja of Mandaue will lock up horns with Steve Noblefranca of Talisay City in a bantamweight match-up set for four rounds.

Prior to the professional action, 12 championship bouts will be contested in the Mayor Lionel Bacaltos Cup Amateur Boxing Competition to entertain the spectators.

The pairings are Chrisian Camajalan vs. Filoteo Cudera (40 kgs.); Kid Rama vs. Reymart Antopina (45 kgs.); Edward Señor vs. Ramil Forcia (46 kgs.); Elvin Revilleza vs. Reymart Rehidor (47 kgs.); Reboy Deparine vs. Jayson Campaña (48 kgs.); Arnel Delfin vs. Jayson Enricoso (48 kgs.);Leo Torres vs. Mark Nazaren Cudera (49 kgs.); Clarence Antopina vs. Bryan Lagad (50 kgs.); Iran Amante vs. Wilmar Lumales (51 kgs.); Dyrel Solatoreo vs. Joseph Mondido (53 kgs.); Johnrey Rellin vs. Joel Abella ( 54 kgs.); and Llowege Henon vs. Rodgen Rama (55 kgs.).

Strongly supported by Mayor Lionel Bacaltos, Vice Mayor Rey Apuda and the rest of the municipal council, the slambang event is among the highlights of the annual fiesta celebration of Sibonga on August 9-10 in honor of the town’s patron saint, Our Lady of Pilar and Santa Filomena.   - THE FREEMAN
