Lucky 7 for Eddiegul

In numerology, the number seven is considered a lucky number. It is thought to contain magical powers and suggest a supernatural property.

Noted French numerologist Jean-Daniel Fermier once said that “Number 7 has a magic sacred side and the reputation of bringing luck.” Fermier clearly implies that “several sevens could bring an extra dose of good fortune.”

This holds a certain measure of truth for University of the Visayas (UV) President and Cebu First District Rep. Eduardo “Eddiegul” Rivera Gullas.

On his 77th birthday, the UV Green Lancers of head coach Elmer “Boy” Cabahug recorded an unprecedented seventh straight championship in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) collegiate basketball.

For the record, the UV Lancers won their first grandslam with a clean 27-0 record. They clinched their seventh title in a row in Year 2007.

Eddiegul’s birthday falls on October 13. If we total his birth date, (October) 10 +1 + 3, the sum is 14. If we divide it by two the result is seven. His cellphone number, which I don’t have a liberty to divulge, contains Triple 7.

Interestingly, the Raffy Briones-mentored UV beach volleyball team manned by Jusabelle Brillo and Janez Armie Igot ruled the 1st Globe Visayas-Mindanao Women’s Beach Volleyball Challenge at the Tagum City Beach Velodrome last October 7. They toiled hard to take home the championship as advance birthday present to Eddiegul.

Cramming through the major highlights of Eddiegul’s storybook career, seven is the most common number.  He became UV president in 1967, Governor of Cebu in 1976, assistant commissioner of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) from 1973 to 1978 and dean of the Gullas Law School-UV from 1967 to 1970.

If you need more proof this ‘magical’ number has touched Gullas in a special way, his name alone “Eduardo” has seven letters.

There is no definite explanation nor concrete evidence that number seven has a mystical relationship with physical objects or living things.

But whether we believe it or not, some events happen and oftentimes strikes us at a significant moment in our earthly being.
