CEBU, Philippines —  The Habitat for Humanity Program (HHP) and the Cebu City government are collaborating through the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) to help individuals in achieving great employment opportunities especially in the construction industry.

The program, entitled “Panday Buhay Project,” was launched yesterday, which aims to help improve the livelihoods, resilience, and quality of life of construction workers by providing training that will obtain multiple national-level certifications.

“More than that, through partnerships with various organizations and institutions, this program elevates the construction industry by supporting our workers and providing them with more opportunities,” said Sheila May Daluz, DMDP head.

According to the Cebu City Public Information Office, HHP is a non-government organization that provides people with better access to clean water, sustainable energy, health care, education, and livelihood.

The program was held yesterday at the DMDP Office at the city's multi-purpose building in Barangay Cogon Ramos.

The programs offered include carpentry, masonry, plumbing, tile-setting, construction painting, electrical installation, and welding.

"What is great about this is that after they complete the 38-day training, they will have a job waiting for them and can enter immediately through various partners," Daluz added.

One of their partners is Primary Structures Corporation, a subsidiary of Primary Group of Builders.

Daluz said construction is one of the fast-growing industries nowadays.

The Cebu City government will also cover the daily allowance of P300 for the training of each participant.

The goal of the program is to uplift the community especially in employment opportunities.

"We are very happy because we really want to help our workers because we have not all gone deep with the pandemic," said Daluz. — GMR (FREEMAN)
