MOD chief Irvin Cabales said he will ensure that Labella’s promise to the ambulant vendors will be fulfilled.

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Market Operations Division has assured the ambulant vendors of Carbon Public Market that none of them will be displaced, as promised by the late mayor Edgardo Labella, in the ongoing market modernization project jointly conducted by the city government and the GMR Megawide Construction Corporation.

MOD chief Irvin Cabales said he will ensure that Labella’s promise to the ambulant vendors will be fulfilled.

"Dili gyud nako kalimtan ang hangyo ni mayor nga kinahanglan nga walay mawad-an og panginabuhian sa tanang vendors sa Carbon ilabi na niadtong ambulant vendors," said Cabales.

Cabales said it was Labella’s wish to give all ambulant vendors a space in the modern Carbon market.

"Dili typical nga boss si mayor, kun duna to siyay hangyo, pamarayeg gyud ang iyang style," he added.

Labella died on November 19 due to septic shock secondary to pneumonia after months of going in and out of hospital.

The first phase of the ongoing Carbon modernization project includes an interim market where ambulant vendors will be relocated there.

In fact, the Carbon Bagsakan, where ambulant vendors are temporary relocated, was officially unveiled in September. The Carbon Bagsakan is located along ML Quezon Boulevard and will serve as a temporary facility while construction of the modern market is ongoing.

Developing the area or renovation of the overall Carbon Bagsakan is undertaken at no cost to the vendors.

The ambulant vendors were given certificates of recognition since the last few months. A certificate assures the holder of a space in the modernized market facility. These were distributed in batches by the MOD. — FPL (FREEMAN)
