Comelec urges seniors, PWDs to register in malls
CEBU, Philippines — Senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable sectors are reminded by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that they are welcome in the ongoing voter’s registration in Cebu City malls.
Cebu City election officer Omar Sharif Mamalinta said that they have designated a special lane for seniors, PWDs and other vulnerable sectors.
Mamalinta said the strategy is to expand their campaign to encourage more individuals to register for the 2022 national and local elections.
He said the mall registration sites were established to be more accessible and convenient to the public.
As of this month, Mamalinta disclosed that an increase of 5 to 10 percent in the number of newly registered voters has been recorded in the city.
“Reminder again, until September 30 ra ang atoang voter’s registration. Wala na tay voter’s registration na extension,” he said.
However, there was an extension on the time for the registration. On Mondays to Fridays, it is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., while on Saturdays and holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Mamalinta also reminded those who wish to register to bring their own ballpen and strictly follow the minimum health protocols.
He urged the public to register while there is still two weeks left before the voter’s registration ends.
“One of the requisites for you to be able to vote is to register. Even if you say every now and then nga the right of suffrage is very important to us, pero unsaon nato pag-vote if wa ta marehistro in the first place? It’s very important na magparehistro ta,” said Mamalinta. — FPL (FREEMAN)
