3 construction projects in Cebu City get safety seal

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Department of Labor and Employment-7 recently awarded three construction projects in Cebu City the safety seal certificate.

The awardees are the Alcoves located at Luzon Avenue, Cebu Business Park, Mabolo; Avida Towers Riala Tower 4 located at JM del Mar corner India St., IT Park, Lahug; and Solinea Tower 4 located at Negros Road, Cebu Business Park.

All these are projects of the Makati Development Corporation (MDC).

DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome O. Siaton, who personally awarded their certificates, underscored the importance and value of the said certificate.

“The issuance of a safety seal certificate is proof that you are not only compliant to the Occupational Safety and Health Standards but also to the Minimum Public Health Standards,” Siaton said.

Being issued with the certificate, Siaton said, would demonstrate that all safety protocols, especially the installation and institutionalization of a contact tracing application is in place in the workplace.

“With this, all your workers, clients and stakeholders will find it safe and secure to work and transact with you knowing that your contractors are also compliant with the law and with the minimum public health standards,” she said.

These minimum health standards are provided for under the DTI, DOT, the LGUs and DILG Joint Memorandum Circular No. 21-01, series of 2021 or the Implementing Guidelines of the Safety Seal Certification Program.

These construction projects are the latest additions to the pool of Safety Seal Certificate Awardees in Region-7.

The MDC, being in the construction and a high risk industry, came in second to the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) Project by Cebu Link Joint Venture to have been issued with such a certificate.

The safety seal certificates must be displayed at the main entrance of the concerned establishments and should be surrendered to the DOLE upon expiry or in the event that they are revoked.

The safety seal certification is a voluntary certification scheme that affirms that an establishment is compliant with the minimum public health standards set by the government and uses or integrates its contact tracing with StaySafe.ph. — GMR (FREEMAN)
