Early registration in public schools starts

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The first day of the early registration for school-year 2021-2022 went well with all 19 schools divisions in Central Visayas were able to start off.

However, Department of Education 7 regional director Salustiano Jimenez could not give any data yet as to how many have already registered as schools have just started out when he checked them.

“So far okay ra man. Naa man pud tay daghang nagpa-register from the different divisions. But, wala pa koy exact data karon,” said Jimenez.

Early registration is the pre-registration of incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners.

Grades 2 to 6, 8 to 10 and 12, on the other hand, need not participate in the early registration as they are already considered pre-registered for the next school-year.

The process is expected to help the said department determine in advance how many students are set for those levels mentioned and how many classes should be.

Those who underwent the early registration however, are not yet considered officially enrolled.

No mention yet as to when the enrollment for the next school-year and when the next school year’s opening will be.

“Opening of the school-year 2021-2022 is still being deliberated. What we know right now is that, this current school-year ends July 15,” said Jimenez.

The 2020-2021 school year in the public schools started October of last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic wherein no face-to-face classes were allowed yet.

Despite all the challenges, in Central Visayas alone, close to two million students in basic education enrolled, close to 1.8 million of them are in public schools.

There were, however, 60 private schools in the region that closed down due to the pandemic, but Jimenez is hopeful that they will reopen again in the next school-year. — GMR (FREEMAN)
