CCTO seeks barangay help against illegal parking

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Transportation Office is urging barangay officials to help in the road clearing operation by implementing the Memorandum Circular 2020-145 of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

The CCTO personnel have observed that some barangays in Cebu City are not mindful of the road obstructions, particularly the illegal parking of vehicles.

CCTO spokesperson John Paul Amores showed a data where 50 vehicles were clamped the other night alone.

Amores advised the public to secure parking space first before buying vehicles.

While the city is still under modified general community quarantine, the CCTO remains in full force to control traffic as more vehicles are expected to ply on the roads.

The DILG announced the clearing operation of public roads sets to resume today.

In a press statement, DILG Secretary Eduardo Ano issued memorandum circular setting the guidelines on the implementation of the road clearing directive of President Rodrigo Duterte.

It is one of the government efforts of Covid-19 response and recovery interventions under Republic Act 11494, or the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, which comprisesfor the regulation of traffic on all roads, streets and bridges and removal of encroachments and illegal constructions in public areas.

DILG-7 Director Leocadio Trovela hopes that local government units will cooperate with the said campaign andaim for a higher compliance rate.

“This road clearing directive is a continuing activity that requires sustained effort and implementation. It is also our way of ensuring that our roads are safe and free from hazardous encroachment and to effectively implement social distancing measures as we gear towards the new normal,” Trovela said.

The agency will work closely with the LGUs and other stakeholders to achieve compliance to the presidential directive.
