Heavy rains cause floods, landslides in Cebu City

CEBU, Philippines — Heavy rains have caused landslides in some areas in Cebu City yesterday.

Ramil Ayuman, officer-in-charge of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said they were on high alert for the past few days due to torrential rains.

A landslide was reported in Sitio Maling, Barangay Babag 2 yesterday where two persons were reportedly injured. No details of the incident were available of press time.

Another landslide was also reported in Sitio Kabarang, Barangay Sapangdaku where nobody got hurt.

“Be extra careful especially sa mga riding motorcycle nato, kung mag-uwan-uwan dapat stay safe sila ug di mobiyahe kay sa Barangay Babag naay na-injured nag-motor,” Ayuman said.

Personnel from the CCDRRMO are closely monitoring places vulnerable to landslides and floods.

Flooding was also reported in Sitio Common, Barangay Bacayan, where two houses were affected. Two families were also displaced by floods in Sitio Tuburan, Barangay Pulangbato.

Flood victims are currently sheltered at Pulangbato Elementary School.

The local government has mobilized various emergency rescue teams for quick deployment in cases of emergency this rainy season.  — GMR (FREEMAN)
