Talisay allows reopening of markets on Sundays

CEBU, Philippines —  Starting tomorrow, Talisaynons get to do their groceries or market day even on Sundays after Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas had issued an executive order (EO) allowing the reopening of public and supermarkets, grocery stores and other establishments during Sundays.

Previously, most establishments, including markets, were closed on Sundays as part of its preventive measures in the spread of COVID-19.

Although it had been almost a month since the City of Talisay had been placed under the Modified General Community Quarantine, Gullas had to carefully make his decisions.

In its latest monitoring, Talisay has 34 active cases, 821 recoveries, and 95 deaths.

In the EO, Gullas said he decided to open the establishments, after making consultations with the city’s Task Force COVID-19 and the vendors.

Gullas, however, reminded that minimum health protocols will have to be observed still that include the wearing of face mask, face shield, social distancing and washing of hands.

Aside from that, quarantine passes will still be needed, as the “no quarantine pass-no entry” policy remains. As such, the public is advised to bring an identification card as proof of identity.

Lechon and inasal stores will also be allowed to open the whole day during Sundays, as they want to continue to showcase the famous Talisay lechon in lieu of the traditional Halad-Inasal festival. — GAN (FREEMAN)
