CEBU, Philippines —  A total of 14 private motor vehicle inspection centers will soon operate in Central Visayas following the first one located in Subangdaku, Mandaue City to serve the Cebuano community.

Land Transportation Office 7 regional director Victor Caindec together with the owners of PMVIC of Rocket Cargo and other stakeholders conducted a walk-through to the media of the modern and a multi-million facility.

“This facility is not just for the sake that your vehicle gone through emission and inspection and other safety checks but an assurance that you are driving a vehicle that is road worthy,” said Caindec during the press conference.

Caindec explained that once a vehicle undergoes inspection of its lights, speedometer, brakes, among others, a computerized results will come out if a vehicle is road worthy and this result is linked with LTO.

“Kani nga proseso kung ang imong sakyanan dili makapasar, dili gyud makapasar. Dili na ni madala og mata-mata. Kung mahibaw-an sa LTO o sa DOTr nga ang operator ani nga facility, gipapasar lang ang sakyanan bisan hagbong diay, their license to operate will be revoked. Unya willing ang operator mopabor og usa lang ka tawo unya millions iyang investment?” Caindec said.

Christian Michael Tiongko, owner of Rocket Cargo, said that based on the standard fee set by the Department of Transportation, light vehicle is P1,800 and P600 for motorcycles.

Caindec said it would take at least 15 minutes for the light vehicle inspection while less than that time for motorcycles.

Caindec said the establishment of PMVIC was being called by the DOTr as one way of helping the government in making all vehicles road worthy and safe for all motorists.

Under the LTO Memorandum Circular 2018-2158 on the Guidelines for the Authorization of Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Centers, there will be 14 sites in Central Visayas where PMVIC will be available.

There are three in Cebu City, two in Mandaue City, one each in Carcar City, Naga City, Danao City; Tagbilaran City, Tubigon, Talibon, in Bohol; two in Dumaguete City and one in Bais City in Negros Oriental.

This first PMVIC in Central Visayas will operate as soon as the Authority to Operate will be issued by the Authorization Committee of DOTr.

The facility has an area of 5,000 square meters which can accommodate both motor vehicles and motorcycles in one inspection at a time.

Caindec added that out of the 14, seven PMVICs are nearing completion of its facilities.

“These PMVICs will complement our transportation modernization program. Mag-unsa man kung modern na atong mga public utility vehicles unya ang atong motor vehicle inspection center karaan lang gihapon?” Caindec further said. — GMR (FREEMAN)
