‘Boy Pakyu’ sorry for cursing at execs

Lorraine L. Ecarma - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  A 24-year-old rapper, who went viral on social media for criticizing the government’s implementation of the 24-hour curfew for minors and senior citizens amid the COVID-19 pandemic, has apologized to the Cebu governor and other government officials.

Brandon Vismanos Perang, who is known as “Boy Pakyu,” issued a public apology yesterday afternoon.

Perang, who was escorted by Cebu Provincial Police Office Chief Col. Roderick Mariano to the Cebu Provincial Capitol, swore to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia never to make or post negative comments about the government’s efforts against COVID-19 on social media.

“Sorry kaayo, Gov. [I’m very sorry, Governor Garcia],” he said.

Garcia met face-to-face with Perang in a press conference yesterday.

Perang turned himself in to authorities last March 23, the same day when Garcia called him on multiple news media’s live feed.

In a now deleted Facebook post, Perang cursed at the people responsible for the newly-imposed restrictions on movement. Garcia’s Executive Order 5-J has prohibited any social gatherings of more than twenty people.

Perang shrugged this off, mocking that his group will continue with their “rap battle” because according to him, the virus is only dangerous for the immunocompromised.

An irate Garcia pressed Perang on whether or not they really continued on with their gathering saying that it would be another violation tallied against him if authorities confirmed that his group did.

Despite his controversial social media update, Perang denied continuing on with their gathering and went on to say that the photo of him and his group affixed in the post was merely a “throwback” picture.

Moreover, Perang also apologized to the members of the police and the military and Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes for cursing at them online.

He explained the post was prompted by the newly-imposed restrictions to his “freedom.”

“Sorry jud kaayo Gov sa gibuhat ani nga post nako. Wala lang jud ko sa pahimuot atong panahona,” he said.

“Nanumpa ko nga mopatuo na ko sa gobyerno, sa mga balaon nila kay para lang man sad ni sa kaayuhan nako ug natong tanan. Ako ning gipanumpa,” he added.

Garcia accepted his apology but made it clear that a complaint will still be filed under Penang for violating Cebu Provincial Ordinance 2020-02.  KQD (FREEMAN)
