All set for Suroy-suroy relaunch

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Tourism Office is now all set for the relaunching of the Suroy-suroy Sugbo this weekend.

After a six-year hiatus, Suroy-suroy Sugbo will again showcase Cebu’s rich cultural heritage during the three-day Southern Heritage Trail.

Suroy-suroy is a pet project of Governor Gwen Garcia during her past administration. It is a tourism caravan that takes local and foreign tourists around the various cities and municipalities in the province.

This initiative by the Garcia administration was launched to boost tourism by immersing tourists in the various cultures and signature products endemic to each town in Cebu.

Cebu Tourism Officer Maria Lester Ybañez said that as of yesterday, three buses of tourists or 147 participants have already registered.

She added that the organizers of the caravan will still be taking in registrants until Wednesday.

Ybañez also ensured that they have already conducted a three-day run-down to check the feasibility of the flow of the travel itinerary. According to her, they have made minor adjustments to ensure maximum comfort for the participating guests.

Ybanez said that P300,000 of public funds have been allocated to local government units included in the Southern Heritage Trail. The amount covers aesthetic improvements and the rehabilitation of basic amenities like comfort rooms needed by the towns.

The Cebu Provincial Tourism Office has already confirmed that after the first leg of Suroy-suroy, they will be moving on to organizing its next installment. Following the Southern Heritage Trail is the Northern Heritage Trail that is planned to happen on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of January. Among the five trails of Suroy-suroy are the Camotes trail, the Midwest trail and the Urban trail. (FREEMAN)
