Sambag I fire victims get aid
CEBU, Philippines — The 150 families affected by the recent fire in Barangay Sambag 1 yesterday received assistance from Cebu City Councilor Niña Mabatid and Senator Manny Pacquiao.
Barangay Sambag 1 recently declared a state of calamity from the fire last Saturday that left more or less 150 families homeless and one casualty.
The families are temporarily housed at the Barangay Sambag 1 Sports Complex and at the Abellana Sports Center.
“Nangayo ko’g tabang kay Senator Manny para sa Cebu City, ang nakanindot niya wala jud siya nagduha-duha motabang,” said Mabatid.
The Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS) provided the list of residents qualified for the goods from Mabatid and the P1,000 per family that Pacquiao gave.
Based from the final incident report, 26 houses were affected – 25 were totally burned, while one was slightly damaged.
A total of 421 individuals were affected by the fire.
“Willing mohatag ang barangay og financial assistance pero wala pa namo na declare ang amount. Mag-depend pa mi sa budget last year na pwede magamit. Ang amo kay makahatag mi’g ayuda maski gamay,” Sambag 1 Barangay Captain Ailien Guardo said.
Guardo said there will be a reblocking that would be done in the area, but they haven’t finalized the details yet.
The Cebu City Government will also release financial assistance to the affected families.
The estimated damage of the fire was pegged at P320,000. (FREEMAN)
