Talisay cops to meet with fraternity leaders

Gabriel C. Bonjoc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Police in Talisay City plan to meet with leaders of the Tau Gamma and Akrho fraternities in their area following the shooting of members of Akrho by Tau Gamma members in Barangay Linao last week.

The two Tau Gamma fratmen later also shot and killed Police Senior Sergeant Alfredo Pagaling of the Minglanilla police last Saturday before they themselves were shot and killed in separate operations in San Fernando and Carcar City.

Talisay police chief Police Major Orlando Carag Jr. said they investigated the original shooting in Barangay Linao and found out it all started when the victims and the suspects got into a fight in a bar over the women they accompanied.

He said he plans to gather the leaders of the fraternities to discuss what happened and what the leaders can do to reign in their members and prevent incidents like these from happening again.

Carag also said he has also talked with police chiefs in neighboring areas about how they can help these two groups get along peacefully. He added he hopes fraternity members let cooler heads prevail when it comes to situations like these.

Tau Gamma members Jesmer Languida Fernandez and Jessie Harold Manugas are suspected to have shot Pagaling dead after thinking he had been alerted to the shooting in Barangay Linao.

Fernandez was shot dead around 5 a.m. last Monday in Sitio Cambuntan, Bolinawan, Carcar City, while Manugas was shot dead in another operation in San Fernando town around 4 p.m. that same day. — BRP (FREEMAN)
